CLOSED – Technical Manager – Solar Energy

Role Description

Your role will be to support the Asset Management Team with technical enquiries that are either detrimental to site performance or a safety/security risk. Analytical skills and a practical comprehension of utility scale solar equipment are desirable to fulfil this role.

You will also be expected to attend site visits to assess the safe and functional running of a solar park and will be expected to produce a site visit inspection report with key action points to feed back to the Asset Management Team.

Finally you will expected to proactively liaise with the Asset Management Team to track the lesser performing sites and produce deep-dive assessments of the root cause of the issue, combining practical knowledge, site visits and SCADA analytics to solve problems and make recommendations for action.

The Asset Management Team is based in Exeter where you will be expected to visit on occasion.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Tracking and managing the key performance indicators (production, availability, performance ratio, grid downtime)
  • Analyse and investigate underperformance issues and provide engineering based recommendations/solutions. Track contractor resolutions and provide technical/engineering support
  • Undertake root cause analysis in respect of key component failure
  • Recommend technical, design and contractual improvements with support from the Performance Analyst as appropriate to enhance the performance of the sites (MWh, PR…)
  • Liaison with the grid network operator and manage amendments to grid connection agreements
  • Assist with project works from a technical and engineering based perspective
  • Implementation of land management measures to comply with planning consents and Low Carbon land management strategy
  • Contributing to the preparation of the monthly management reports by providing technical commentary and reviewing/analysing operational KPIs prepared by performance analyst

 

You will also work in conjunction with the commercial Asset Managers overseeing the performance (regular reviews and meetings) of all service contractors and compliance with their contractual obligations including:

  • Meeting and exceeding performance guarantees such as availability, and performance ratio
  • Health, safety and environmental performance and compliance with the site H&S plan, the relevant Health and Safety standards, legislation and good industry practice.
  • Response time for corrective maintenance and effective technical resolution of equipment failures
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Remediation of defects
  • Performance of security systems and communication systems

Skills & Experience

Prospective candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering or commercial discipline and be able to provide evidence of being / having:

  • A full, clean driving licence – this role involves regular travel
  • Demonstratable experience in the electricity industry and a track record of successfully managing the performance of operational assets
  • A good technical knowledge of electricity generation and solar park technology in particular
  • Good contractual understanding and experience of negotiating or managing EPC and O&M contracts
  • Competent when dealing with quality standards, best practise procedures, technical specifications and regulatory requirements
  • A self-starter with a passion for the renewable energy industry, desire for success and the willingness to challenge the status quo in order to maximise assets’ ROI safely following best practise guidelines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport quickly and develop long-term relationships with all stakeholder groups. Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with all stakeholder groups including OEMs, contractors and clients
